Disclaimer: This is by no means a guide that embodies all the styles, variations and tastes of adoptions. It does not reflect all of the individual preferences and opinions of the entire PC. It's meant to be a quick start guide for anyone who wants some tips and tricks when it comes to breeding and posting petz for adoptions based on my personal experience and observations. Feel free to cherry pick this page and adapt it to your personal aesthetics and preferences!
So you want to adopt out some petz but are feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start? This is for you! Adopting is a huge part of the game for a lot of people and with Discord, Websites and Forums at your disposal it can be intimidating to know where to even begin. So I'm going to go over some ways to prepare adoptions and get them out into the world!
Ways to Prepare:
Helpful tools from Rat Shack for mass breeding and easy visibility within your file folders! PetzA Batch Breeder & Petz Thumbnails
A way to double check eye colours to see if theres a fluke to note! Genepoolz
Make sure you have some high contrast clothing items for sorting. I like to use Shutter Shades from Hextraordinary and the Many Bows Pack from Oasis
Picking a Theme
Now that we have the infrastructure in place we can move onto creative! At this stage you can pick a theme! Themes can give you a compass when dealing with the overload of cute petz Batch Breeding can create and also give a sense of novelty and cohesion that can result in more successful adoptions.
Some common theme examples:
Breed
Body Composition
Colours
Show Titles
Holidays
NIB and/or PB
For this guide I've picked Fang and Mania from my Alley crew!
A litter can be from any combination of parents - to keep things simple for the guide I'm just using one pair.
Go ahead and load up the overwrites and petz you'd like to use and open the game!
Consider using a copy of your petz instead of the original file in case of accidental deletion during sorting!
Head on over to the Clothes Closet where you'll have quick access to the high contrast clothing items we mentioned earlier.
I usually designate 3 different coloured clothing items for breeding: One colour for the parents, one for adopting out and one for potential keepers!
Breeding Time
Now you're ready to start batch breeding! Choose an amount you're comfortable with and let the petz flow!
Once your hoard is running wild you can do some quick sorting!
Things to look out for that are frequently appealing to adopters:
Selfie (matches the main coat colour) or black eyelids
White markings (face stripe and chest patch etc)
Proportionate body parts
Solid petz, petz with Accent lids (lids that match a secondary coat colour), petz without white markings and fun shaped petz can still be included in litters or can even be their own theme for a litter, once again this is just a loose guideline that offers an easy starting point!
Throw your designated clothing items on the ones that match your goals!
You can also mark ones that, while they meet your standards in a general sense, aren't quite right for this batch and can be set aside for future litters! If youre not quite getting results that you like or want to try for more variety you can try gender swapping the parents!
Once you have some petz selected you can exit your game and look at your Adopted Petz folder. From here you can see my parent petz clearly marked by their blue bows and potential petz to adopt out marked with yellow bows. Delete everything else!
This will leave you with a batch of petz to do a final sort through. Open up your game again and start picking the petz for the final litter! I like to keep my litters between 5-8 petz so they have a good range of qualities but dont overshadow each other.
Once in game you can start by pulling out any petz that are fairly similar and choose which of those you'll keep for the litter. For example I put all of these as potentials but because theyre so similar and these parents produced a good variety, I only want to use one orange mottled coat for this particular litter and will delete or save the other ones for another time.

I like to do this so each pet stands out in a way from it's litter mates and gives the litter a curated feeling. This logic of course excludes litters where the goal is to have similar looking petz or if you're doing large adoption drops you can keep more of the petz with some similarities but still have distinctive features and apply the spacing out suggestion to the drop!
AnExample of a large Golden Retriever dropI did prior to spacing out the more similar pups.
Next you set aside or delete the ones that didn't make the final litter and we move onto the next step!
Picking Names
You can always stick to the batch breeder names but picking something out gives them that extra special touch!
Some common ways people pick names:
Based on the litter theme
Name generators such as Fantasy Name Generatoror AI
Media references
Random words/objects
Baby name websites
Taking Photos
In game photos are often ideal because they showcase the petz' features the best as opposed to a thumbnail image. When taking photos I usually prefer to take adult photos (and personally prefer adopting from) because while babies are cute they often obscure the actual look of the pet full grown. Exceptions can be purebreds or mixed/selective breeds that are known to be consistent in their shape (tamsins, velveteens etc).
When taking photos try to include poses that will show things like what the breed face is, interesting and/or cute markings, notable SCPs and general shape. You can also add non-obscuring clothing items such as bows, crowns, bobbles etc to complement or draw attention to the colours of the pet (plus they're just super cute). A common choice is matching the item to the petz eye colour but I like to also match accent colours or pick something that contrasts the colour of the fur on the head!

At this point you can decide if you're ready to post or if you want to add some extra details to the photos to really make your adoptions pop! Some people add outlines and eyeshies, dropshadows, dithering or burn etc. These arent necessary but can be fun to include especially if youre making a special occasion litter or want to doll it up for your website. You could even avoid the baby vs adult choice and do a combo image that includes both!

If you're making a full litter image consider spacing out similar coloured petz! Also take this into consideration when posting individual petz on different platforms. Spacing out similar colours can make each pet stand out more (Unless thats your theme! Then the similar colours work in your favour!)
Before spacing:

After:

And thats it! Once again this is just a quick start guide and is by no means the only way you can do adoptions! Theres a place for every kind of adoption and pet in this community so don't hesitate to take this outline and make it your own!

Random Tips
If your bred adoptions require external breedfiles, palettes or lesser used OWs that have external textures make note of it when posting the petz
People will often adopt bred petz with the intention to breed them as well so it's courteous to mention if the pet has been brexed beyond carried genetics, shows traits from a private hexed file or if their eye colour is a fluke
If you're missing inspiration check out the breeding utilities on Sungraze Peak!
If you want to get more intentional with your breeding or even start a project to adopt out later check out Thor's Petz Checker Utilityfor more in depth gene knowledge!
Make sure to mention if a pet is of Show Champion lineage, related to a "famous" pet, is bred without any OWs or is NIB and/or PB to add an extra layer of flair to them!
Pay attention to when people "casually" mention theyre looking for certain types of petz so you can test your skills or make some coin!
"Test the waters" while you're breeding by posting cute pictures on your preferred platform and seeing which petz people react the best to - then target them >:)
